Look, Joanna, the fact is that for at least some women, size does matter (for whatever reasons). Now if it does not matter to you, that's great, because that increases the range of lovers that you can have without this being an issue. I am not doubting that your statement is true for you, but can you speak for all women?
The way men need to deal with this issue is not to live in denial of the above fact. There are many things that might not be compatible between two people in a relationship. Penis size might be one of them. Sometimes it might be the case that a man's penis is too large or too short for a given woman.
If that is the case, is the woman wrong? No. And she shouldn't brow beat herself over it. Nor does the man in question feel inferior. There are plenty of women for whom it would not be an issue. I prefer women as partners, but not men. Do I need to brow beat myself over that? No. If a homosexual man were to come on to me, and I rejected him, he should not feel like there is something wrong with him, it just turns out that I have different preferences...it's not a reflection on him. So, Joanna, you know latin and I think there is an appropriate saying in that language:
De gustibus non est disputandum.

Right.

Well, kegels, are good for both men (as a way to prolong intercourse) and women. However, I dont know that it would have remedied that situation. Maybe it would. I dont know. However, can you imagine a man being in a hot situation and asking the woman to do contractions ;)? Think kegels need to be done over a certain amount, just like any other excercise, in order to be effective.
