[lbo-talk] LA Grocery Strike: Where Was the Left?

One explanation why the grocery workers lost the California supermarket strike is that they didn't have the objective social power to impose their terms. The calls for symbolic action like sitting in Walmart seem to take that hypothesis as a premise.

Did grocery workers used to have more ability to stop stores from selling groceries? Or did some supermarkets get to be union through the power of truckers, or of skilled workers that used to work in supermarkets, like butchers?
