[lbo-talk] great moments in homeland security

This looks like the state of affairs in the airline industry from now on until the "war against terrorists" is finally won (which will, of course, be never).

Forget about booking a flight and expecting that it will actually fly. The industry, which is never very healthy, will be thrown into chaos. Along with increasing fuel prices as petroleum becomes more and more expensive, this roulette-wheel cancellation process will lead to the necessity of the U.S. government taking over the industry. Thus, one of the first "terrorist" victories will turn out to be the socialization of the flight industry.

However, leftists will not rejoice over this kind of socialization, since the government has already shown a strong proclivity towards denying people with the wrong ideas (like pacifist nuns) the opportunity to board planes. We should probably assume that, before long, anyone who has ever expressed a dissident opinion, as well as anyone who has a name similar to any such dissident, will no longer be able to fly.

Happy New Year.
