Even the most shameless dictator would not try to get away with imposing the American system, where a political party must submit to having its candidates for office selected by people who are not members of the party, don't agree with what the party stands for and maybe even members of a rival political party.
Most dictators are far more honest and forthright, they just ban opposing political parties. In the US of course, people are free to form political parties, however political parties are not permitted to nominate candidates for elected office. A truly breathtaking fraud.
But I would also be interested in knowing if the concept has been copied anywhere else?
