In Kirkuk, a US army patrol opened fire by mistake on an Iraqi police patrol
that was stopped in the middle of Rahimao Square, in the northern part of
the city, at about 8:30 pm (1730 GMT), when it heard heavy gunfire in the
area, according to police chief General Turhan Yussef.
"US forces have admitted killing two Iraqi policemen by mistake and said
that they have opened an investigation," he said.
Ardi Ali, a Kurd, died on the spot, while Ibrahim Hadi, a Turkmen, died at
the hospital, according to Yussef.
A coalition spokesman in Baghdad had no immediate information about the
incident.
