Indonesia 2003 foreign investment aprrovals jump

Indonesia's foreign direct investment approvals in 2003 were up by $3.4 billion from the previous year's figure, according to government data. "The investment approvals from January to December 2003 were $13.21 billion," said a statement by state investment agency BKPM, obtained by Reuters on Tuesday.
"The leading investment values during this period were transportation and communication, $4.16 billion; chemical and pharmaceutical industry, $3.03 billion; (and) paper and printing industry, $1.3 billion."
It also said domestic investment approvals rose to 48.5 trillion rupiah from 25.23 trillion a year before.
