That fact does not please NASA at all. The NY Times has an article today noting how generous NASA has been in sharing the latest project info: "The glut of Mars information is a result of the agency's decision to try to bolster support — and financing — for the space program by getting the public more involved." <http://www.nytimes.com/2004/01/27/science/space/27WATC.html?pagewanted=1&hp>

Basically, NASA's martian wanderings are just another form of "reality" TV. And I do not believe the U.S. needs any more escapist entertainment at this time.
