Actually, that's "Maquis", and they are not a race, but are Federation settlers who are facing Cardassian occupation of their colonies due to a peace agreement ending the long Federation-Caredassian war.
Not happy with this arrangement, the Maquis turn to "terrorist" activities fighting against both the occupation and the Federation authorities.
