"Liberty Bound" goes further than "Fahrenheit 9/11" kalitara, samedi, 03/07/2004 - 14:32 Communiqués
With all the recent press about Michael Moores new documentary Fahrenheit 911, very few people have yet to hear about a powerful independent film called Liberty Bound. Very few, that is, except for the large crowd that attended the premiere of the film in Paris on June 23rd.
Christine Rose, the documentary filmmaker, was present to answer questions about the film for over an hour after the screening to an inspired audience of young and old. Unlike Moores film, who has several other documentaries under his belt, this is Ms. Roses first film; and yet she couldnt have picked a more powerful subject, or for that matter, a more controversial one. Even though there are similarities among the two films, Rose gets very personal with her investigation. She takes us to her home town and allows us to accompany her on her trip across the US to discover the great loss of liberty the American people have suffered since 9/11. She at once shocks us with her observations, and leaves little doubt that we are living in a different world: a world where the freedoms we once took for granted are becoming more tenuous and harder to hold onto day by day.
The film, which was picked up for international distribution by a French firm called Take Off, is being shown at Espace St. Michel, and numbers are increasing every day in all four screenings. The film premiere was covered by every major media outlet in Paris. It even appeared on the cover of Liberation, the New York Times of Paris. With the tremendous success of Moores film, which grossed over $21M its first weekend out, it's becoming obvious that people all over the world are wanting and needing to see and hear the truth, which is every bit as entertaining and shocking as anything Hollywood releases.
Ms. Rose is just getting her career started, but with the success of her first film, its a sure bet that there will be more films in the works from this talented and dedicated young woman who is becoming known as the independent alternative to Michael Moore.

Liberty Bound takes an entertaining look at Americas ongoing struggle to keep a comfortable balance between democracy, capitalism, and fascism. This is a film about historic events that shape history. It is a film about courage and fear; ignorance and knowledge; propaganda and rhetoric.
Christine set out to answer these questions on her quest across America:
What is fascism and why does that word increasingly appear in the alternative and foreign media when referencing the United States? Are we losing our civil liberties? Is our very constitution and Bill of Rights in jeopardy? Do Americans know what their government is doing? How much of the daily news is well-disguised propaganda? Through original footage, archived footage, and interviews with people such as Howard Zinn, Michael Parenti, and Michael Ruppert, Liberty Bound explores the state of the union and its ostensible move toward fascism. We talk with people who have been interrogated by the Secret Service and threatened with arrest for doing such benign things as sending an email, turning around during a Bush speech, and having a philosophical discussion on a train.
Christine also explores the unanswered questions surrounding the attacks of 9/11, and she takes a closer look at the timeline of that terrible day. She examines the US Governments reasons for going to war with Afghanistan and Iraq. She also delves into the accusations that the Bush Administration knew about the 9/11 attacks and their warlike agenda is actually centered on oil.
Finally, she studies the elements of previous empires and fascist states as compared to recent occurrences in the United States: the loss of civil liberties, police brutality, homeland security, etc.
Liberty Bound leaves us with the question: Is the United States bound for liberty or does it just have liberty bound?
