[lbo-talk] Editor of Russian Forbes murdered

Heard the report this morning on NPR. They closed the
piece with a 
mention that Putin is doing little to solve the
murders. While trying 
not to wander into conspiracy theory territory,
doesn't it serve 
Putin to have a little fear put into the souls of any
working 
journalists? And if the oligarchs or org.crime do it
for him, so much 
the better?

Is that too cynical, or conspiracy nutty?

Nah, Klebnikov was pro-Putin. It was probably somebody
pissed off about their secret income being revealed in
Forbes. Doing that is dangerous here!

This really is sad. Forbes, of all things, was one of
the only English-language pubs in the 1990s covering
the oligarchy somewhat accurately. And it's all
because of the White Russian nationalist Klebnikov,
who saw what was happening to his country and was
horrified.
