Our papers are full of stories now about press freedom
has virtually 
disappeared in Putin's Russia. Is there any truth to
this?

Yes and no. The national TV channels are obedient to
the Kremlin. The print and Internet outlets are at the
control of whoever funds them. Sovtskaya Rossia is the
house paper of the KPRF. Novaya Gazeta is an
anti-Kremlin hit rag that seems to like making shit up
(with their recent forged letter from US congressmen,
for example). Kommersant is Berezovsky-owned anti
generally anti-Kremlin.

They all serve vested interests.
