that's our boy, coop, the darling of the Nation. after his debacle at KPFK a few years back, one would think the LA Weekly, the Nation, and a few others would be wise to this guy. i guess he knows what to kiss and when. i wouldn't call him an "old hippie" though, unless you have in mind brain damage due to drugs.

who doesn't miss mort sahl, by the way? mort never made a movie as i recall. his forte was as night club comedian. he could do an entire act from that day's newspaper, which he'd not seen before he went on. he's great in so many ways.

and buckley? maybe he's what coop wants to be when he grows up. that erstwhile pedant of the right -- who, like milton of the central banks, never said in 10 words what he could intellectualize in 50 --declared in the july 12, 2004, newsweek, "it isn't absolutely obvious that if the gettysburg address were given today, it would instantly rivet the world." as i recall, when the gettysberg address was given the first time, it was regarded as a great disappointment, not riveting anyone. but then, bill was there and i wasn't.

bill did make a good point further on, however: "you have to put cotton in your ears when the national conventions come on." the same is true of Radio Nation with coop at the helm.

: Another LA Weekly leftie, an old hippie named Marc Cooper, is even more
: openly hostile in his March 5th piece " Cooper literally hates Moore, so
: much so that he's willing to openly admit his deeper allegiance to the
: Right rather than support one of his own who's made it: "Call me a
: nostalgic or even a stupid, white man, but when I hear the bellowing of
: Michael Moore I achingly long for the days of Mort Sahl. Or even, yes,
: it's true, William F. Buckley."
:
: exile.ru's article wrote: It's strange, but even though Leftists have
: always criticized America's militarism when it was at its worst, for
: some reason, when Moore criticizes it, the masks come off and the Left
: is outraged, moving in to crush him at all costs for daring to suggest
: that America shouldn't be invading other countries. Maybe that's because
: they're envious that for once, someone's being listened to
:
: --Cooper delcared that the only people who would like the movie would be
: seals clapping in the audience. But on his blog comment section, a good
: number of positive reviews of the film came from commenters who were not
: on the left at all. very interesting. also the film is being reported
: around the country as having a good reception by vets, repubs., etc.
