The only people here arguing that Kerry is a shoo-in are the people who are trying to rationalize their own policy of sitting on their asses and doing nothing to defeat Bush. This is because -- deep down, or maybe not so deep down -- they too know that Kerry is far preferable to Bush because a Bush victory would be a complete and utter disaster for progressives. They are trying to square reality with their quasi-religious belief in one of their most beloved political metaphors, George Wallace's claim about there being "not a dime's worth of difference" between the two "parties."
