I do not believe that anyone is saying that they are against fundamental social change.
It just seems that for some people schools are a positive experience and for some it is not. Maybe a better society would allow for people to pursue learning in ways that are appropriate to them and not penalize them for the approach they take.
For me school was great. I acquired a love of learning that is still with me today.
For my husband, school was the exact opposite experience, and he turned out the smartest of the two of us. I think the problem that must be addressed is the automatic assumption that a degree signifies intelligence/competence. All a degree means is that the person mastered the art of jumping through a particular set of academic hoops. Changing this paradigm would be a fundamental social change for the better.
