[lbo-talk] listmembers in the news

Don't know about the Assads and the Alawaites, but perhaps the more significant Shia presence on Israel's northern border is the de facto Islamic Republic of South Lebanon run by Hezbollah -- whose successful resistance to the Israeli occupation is a continuing inspiration to Sunni Palestinians and Iraqi Shias alike. When the US and Israel threaten Syria for "harbouring terrorists" in the region, it is really Hezbollah they are aiming at, in their mistaken belief that the Syrians could disarm or otherwise control that movement.
