Well, it's complex. Marx analyzed that hierarchy -- i.e. figured out why market societies are run by markets -- but he didn't invent it. If anything, Marx is *truer* today than ever before, simply because so much more of the world has been commodified (peasants have become wage workers, industrial society has spread everywhere, etc.). Capitalism in the 1870s was mostly limited to the UK, US, and a few Western European countries; most of the rest of the planet lived in small agrarian settlements, where colonial/feudal social relations predominated.
We have a different kind of capitalism today, but it's still capitalism.
