His points have the depth of a conservative political humorist, but he does make some valid points. People do fear the government for good reasons. People in cities fear the police. People in rural areas fear the sheriff enforcing the edict of the bank. Poor people hate liberal social service program which are barely adequate to meet their needs and don't do anything to bring about radical social change. It a better funded bread line a nice sit-down dinner at a restaurant?

Liberals and progressives have spent the last four years screaming about Bush's police state. But will they tear it down if Kerry gets elected? The Dem might get rid of some trivial stuff like the Patriot Act, but is Kerry going to open up the jails? Did't Bill Clinton promote a program to put 100,000 police in the streets? People want less government for valid reasons and liberals will never admit that big government is bad and they will never reach the anarchist conclusion that all government is bad.

Actually, O’Rourke is throwing some advice to the Democrats. They won't take it because they are so self-righteous that they "do the right thing."
