Zhirinovsky's latest gem: "If I were president of Russia, we would never lose the World Cup! If the Russian team lost, they would be barred from the country, deprived of Russian citizenship, their wives sent to insane asylums, and their children to orphanages." I watched him "debate" Saakashvili on TV recently, and it was amazing. The host apologized to S. ahead of time. S. said that "I know Vladimir Volfovich is a true friend of the Georgian people." The "debate" ended with Zh. threatening to send Russian tanks to Tbilisi. :)

He comes across as a charming rogue, and on some issues is independent minded: he was brutal on the Catholic Church during the abuse scandals. I think he believes his own hype. He can express self pity and belligerence in a single sentence, which is typical of U.S. hawks. Biggest crybabies in the world.
