[lbo-talk] the imperialism of the liberal

The Muwakkil article you cite is dated May 21, 2002. By December 2003 Muwakill seems to be less preoccupied with 'sorting fact from fiction' than with asking many of the same kind of questions that so-called 'conspiracists' were asking and even addressing the taboo matter of the Israeli spies. Muwakkil follows a trend among progressive journalists on this issue. First they instinctively got their hind legs and attack other journalists raising questions about this matter, pretending that slitting hairs about 'accuracy' is a substitute for original investigative reporting and then they jump on the bandwagon when it appears the train is leaving the station.

....But the White House's reticence is fueling suspicions they may want some questions about 9/11 to remain unanswered. One of those questions concerns the extent of warnings from outside sources, and a story about an extensive network of Israeli espionage agents that was caught spying in the U.S. The news of an Israeli spy ring operating within the U.S. first broke into the mainstream through a four-part series on Fox News Channel from Dec 12-15, 2001. By late December, however, the story was removed from the Fox website and disappeared for several months. Because of renewed interest in the issue, the story has been reposted.
