Doug, you may be happy to learn that a really high fraction of the nation's topsoil is in Eastern Iowa.  There are some really pretty towns there with lovely wooden churches and long red roads leading up to the farms.   And Bix Beiderbecke the great trumpet player is from Iowa too.  We once were stuck in Dubuque during a tornado.  Got out the next day just before some bridges washed out.
