Some interesting things:
1) Janet Jackson was bleeped last night on Letterman for saying Jesus. Theocracy here we come.
2) Al Franken said in an interview: "Using humor is helpful and makes politics go down easy. It's candy. And hopefully, that's what our show will be."
Class conscious and struggle through humor. Is someone ever going to tell this bozo that right wing radio works because of passion, not humor? Humor is a palliative. If we can laugh about it, it must not be that bad. Now I am not advocating humorlessness (Buddha smiles do wonders), but how about some medicine?
3) On a good note, I just found a great book -- The End of Dissatisfaction? by Todd McGowan (SUNY Press - 2004). It talks about the culture of commanded enjoyment that is prevalent today and how it supports the system of global capitalism. It is well written and lays out its case clearly -- not an abundance of jargon. Also, McGowan talks a lot about Zizek who gets posted about here a lot (I am still trying to get into him, though if he writes about handballing he might not be that bad. LOL).
