That imagery of a Joe Sixpack vs. pointy-headed Massachusetts liberal will have a greater impact on the election than all foreign policy issues combined. That is why the effect of Clarke's "revelations" will be negligible - those who support Bush do so because they identify with the image he projects and do not give two shits about anything outside their own counties, let alone US foreign policy. Those who see foreign policy issues as important are already against Bush.
The kulturkampf between the rural, small-town and suburban Amerika on one side and the big city, cosmopolitan crowd on the other that will be the main theme of the 2004 election. Everything else will be pushed to the background.
