I saw the same clip where he said ribbons are considered "medals" under the military lexicon. Don't know if it's true and I really don't give a shit. He was protesting the Vietnam War after choosing to serve, instead of getting a deferment and letting some poor person serve in his place. What he threw is not important; why he threw it was.
