Bill Hinton died yesterday. The author of _Fanshen_ and several other
books about the Chinese revolution, he never lost his commitment to the
largest single part of humanity - the rural (and urban slum) poor. While
other comfortable "leftists" moved on "past" anti-imperialist and class
struggles while happily focused on spacerockets, sport cars, and
"shining India" (or China) propaganda, Bill to his dying day made the
struggles of the largest part of humanity - the propertyless - his own.
