Charles, a few days ago you asked me to, "report back to you, " for my summary of the New Left pamphlet by LNS journalist Allen Young, "Gays Under The Cuban Revolution." A hundred pgs. or so. (Just like you asking me to do what you refuse to do, do a book report on A.J. Polan's critique of Lenin's State and Revolution...what next puree Cynthia Enloe's book on bananas and patriarchy and imperialist militarism?) You have never shown any knowledge, over the last 4 or 5 yrs. I have been here, pre-existing on the issues of the relations between gay lib and the Socialist and Communist Left, or have done any of the reading, from lists I have sent at leat 4 or 5 times, most recently just a week ago, of a good # of sources, starting w/, "Gay Men and the History of the Socialist Left, " if my memory serves, the anthology taken from the Journal of Homosexuality, I have cited repeatedly, or volumes on such as Harry Hay, who was in the CPUSA (Will Geer's lover btw, in the 30's) or works by gay left/marxist historians like Jeffrey Weeks, Dennis Altman, Martin Duberman, Jonathan Ned Katz or Sheila Rowbotham, that present a picture of homophobia on the Left ("Give me that 'ol time bourgeois decadence!") that did not begin to break down until the late 70's after protracted struggle.
