In California, the law requires that your boss give you 4 hrs. off if you are working between the 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. voting hrs. And if the Matt Gonzalez/Green Party folks and other progressives here around Tom Ammiono (my old CCDS comrade, wonderful woman cadre Giulana Milanese was a campaign worker for Tom, at a BBQ in Pacifica a yr. before the election [before Matt decided to run], I blathered w/ who I did not know [at the moment, heh, wipe egg off face] was the Ammiono campaign mgr. saying unfortunately his time had past but, there was hope if they recruited absentees) like Ross Mirkarimi had been as smart as the Gavin Newsom campaign, they would have been recruiting absentee voters a yr. before the election like Newsom's folks did. Matt won the popular vote on the day of the election, was defeated by the absentee vote on the avenues in the Sunset district which Rich de Leon of SF State w/ his book on SF politics could have told them in vast detail. Now there is finally after all these yrs. a lefty project recruiting absentee voters.
