Indeed.
Bush's performance before the Army War College was unremarkable in many ways and startling in others.
I noted an obvious lack of enthusiasm for Bush's words (and, we can infer, the man himself) among the assembled officers and military officials. There were several moments (I counted at least eight) when the speechwriter wrote lines designed to elicit applause -- "we must strive forward for freedom", etc, etc -- which were met with a chilly silence.
And what applause was given was restrained and polite -- a polar opposite of the raucous explosions of cheers Bush enjoyed only a few months ago.
It was fascinating to watch and surely must have given Kark Rove shooting pains.
