From a letter from two Muslim women in yesterday's Toronto Star defending the Ontario government's decision to allow the setting up of shari'a based arbitration panels:
"Beating or hurting one's wife is not permitted in Islam; only a slight tap that doesn't cause any pain with a _miswack_ (toothpick) is allowed; anything further is reprehensible."
