We should also take the west coast with us: I think most of them would be willing. Though we won't just need nukes: the other folks also have most of the guns. Better start the stockpiling now. Then again, maybe we can just win through economic sanctions and export taxes.
Since both of those land masses are only contiguous via Canada, it makes sense to get them involved. Certainly something to keep us occupied for the next four years at least and the rhetorical possibilities are endless: "If the values of the American Republic are so diametrically opposed, lets separate into those two Americas and see whose values really work better." fun stuff.
