[lbo-talk] liberal FM radio

Are any of you familiar with the level of impact media has on the public?

Here's the idea that's been floating in my mind for several days: The ratio of Republicans to Democrats was suprisingly close throughout the country. If radio news content has been shown, through research papers, to have an impact on voters opinion, [ ¿ ] why not try to get a liberal radio station aired in areas that are not accustom to hearing liberal ideas? The material doesn't have to be to the level of anarchism, or even socialism, but at least give them the facts about how the present economic system is not to their favor, and is actually hurting their future. I cannot suggest something like Pacifica Radio simply because I have never had a change to listen to the station on the internet. I have been able to listen to archived versions of Democracy Now, and Doug's radio show; both of which would not be too radical for the average joe. Air America is another liberal radio channel, but its location is not in rural areas, where liberal ideas might be os real value. Also you have to take the channel in an all-or-nothing deal.

The only other problem I've been thinking of is the way in which to get the radio up and running. I guess there could be something like community owned - whereby the person who donates money to the station gets a democatic vote on what airs. The main problem I can see in this idea is large corporations trying to manipulate the programs on the air - as they have done to PBS.

I welcome any ideas and suggestions. Thomas
