I don't know if phrases like "religious political extremists" push evangelical white workers to the Republican Party, but what's certain is that liberal Democrats will never stop using such phrases (NOW's favorite slogan is "Fight the Radical Right" <http://www.now.org/cgi-bin/store/SI-FRR.html?id=8f9y2K2v>) because they need the phrases to scare people in or close to their camp with the specter of "religious political extremists" and the like and deter them from breaking ranks and bolting from the Democratic Party. -- Yoshie
