According to the Boston Globe (front page), this essentially is an internet hoax fed by online conspiracy theories. The Kerry camp has denied it and Kerry's brother has asked that people stop sending him e-mails and directs people to the DNC. Some Democrats in Congress have asked the GAO for an investigation and the president of the American Sociological Association has said that a full investigation would be appropriate.
On the good side is that it has temporarily distracted some people from 911 conspiracy theories.
