Carl is on to something here. Partially anyway. One does not have to be agnostic to avoid idolatry and blasphemy, but one does have to avoid mistaking the human for the divine. Life and death for instance is the providence of god not man. Calculated killing in this sense is a sin because it involves trespassing on the providence of god. Another more interesting case is that of worldly laws. Laws are the creation of man (sic). As such they are guides but not the absolute rule for final judgment is the providence of god not man. The point: the human is fallible, the divine is not. This simple axiom contains a philisophical paradox but those who attempt to crack it directly will find themselves in a bad infinity for it simply is an irreducible paradox.
