The main point (which you appear to have missed) was that action is more likely under Bush, since the other candidate's strategy is to co-opt opponents, while Bush's inclination is to alienate them. I don't know how you come to the conclusion that this is "wishful thinking"?

You disagree with the analysis. You think it deluded. But what are your reasons? I'd be interested in an explanation of where you think it is mistaken, but the above isn't an explanation. The religious analogy appears to be plucked out of thin air, the article gave rational explanations for its conclusions.
