"Mr. Joyboy" was Steiger's finest role, IMO (and I would note in passing that Joyboy's mom certainly foreshadowed today's supersize-it USA). Also, there's no question that the hyper-entrepreneurial cemetery proprietor "the Blessed Reverend" is Jonathan Winters at his best. One of my favorite lines is when Winters receives a remunerative offer from a land developer for his mega-cemetery (modeled on the 300-acre Forest Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Glendale, California, where I believe the film was actually shot). Winters (who has been heard throughout the film extolling respect for the dead and speaking in flowery terms of the eternal peace his cemetery provides) realizes he has a slight problem to fix before he can sell off the cemetery for redevelopment, and he growls: "How do I get these stiffs off my property?"
