To paraphrase a certain retired politician, it all depends on what your definition of "to be" is.
If one speaks of America's (currently failing) attempt "to be" a functioning consitutional republic, then the original poster's sentiment seems accurate.
If one speaks of America's capacity "to be" a global military superpower and enforcer of extreme free market capitalism at home and abroad, undeterred by law or generally accepted standards of human decency, well, then this will be strengthened further with the coup (an accurate term, IMO).
Where did this thread start from?
