And if you believe John Ehrlichman & Kevin Phillips, the story got traction because the ruling class wanted to pull the plug on Nixon. Should the ruling class tire of W, this would be the perfect story (though it would run the risk of serious legitimation crisis).

Ok, so if there is serious evidence of hanky-panky what greater strategic use of blogs etc. can we use in order to pose a legitimation crisis if they *don't* go after W./Repugs.? OTOH, they seem to be letting him get away completely with an illegal war and a fiscal mess, so why wouldn't they just use those issues to get rid of him? Maybe it's time to revisit Fred Block's "The Ruling Class Doesn't Rule"?
