this is an incredibly aggressive misreading of Marcuse. ODM is theoretical analysis and critique, not a pamphlet that 'says' this or that. Part of the problem outlined therein is the urge to sum things up, whatever their complexity, in a sentence or two.

For somebody who said stuff like this about the need for specificity in attacks, Marcuse wrote some pretty damned blunt stuff when it came to actual history and society. _One-Dimensional Man_ says the problem's everywhere and nowhere: "industrial society," shared culture, "man." What, specifically, would you attack, if that book were your guide? The whole culture is the only logical answer. Well, how the hell do you attack a whole culture?

Massively over-rated.

I dispute that Key...

The roots of repression are, and remain real roots; consequently, their eradication remains a real and rational job. What is to be abolished is not the reality principal, not everything, but such particular things as business, politics, exploitation, poverty.

To forget this is to mystify the possibilities of liberation." --Herbert Marcuse

Trotsky is a complete nonentity in Russia. No, a tiny footnote to Lenin.

Is this any surprise after seventy years of official lies about Trotsky, Lenin and the entire history of the revolution? ___________________________________ http://mailman.lbo-talk.org/mailman/listinfo/lbo-talk
