While Kerry now promises not to privatize SS I was under the impression not so long ago he voiced the opinion that traditional pensions should give way to 401k's, more than they have already I assume, with which I disagree, and he favors some sort of private "Retirement Savings Accounts" for people. I have never found out exactly what he means by that term. Maybe someone here knows what Kerry meant when he spoke of this in the past? I don't think Kerry would privatize SS to the same extreme as Bush but that does not mean I believe he opposes all forms of privatization as he now states. It is change from what he said 4 or 5 years ago.
