Charles, Your question is a good example of how Russia today is misunderstood. The end of communism meant, for most Russians, socialism with a tad bit of capitalism – meaning the same system, but with a whole lot more stuff. This is why Russians could care less about America’s end of history democracy. The end of history here is to have a tan, have a passport to travel, and waste money on one’s birthday. Beyond these issues, Dick Cheney is an icon here – “Go f**k yourself!”
