So, Jimi, if I'm not understanding what I should understand, tell me what it is! If icriture is writing, then you have to cross that off your list of contributions by Derrida. Clearly, he didn't invent writing. He wasn't even good at it.

in fact, it's "icriture" that could, if you were ridiculously reductionist enough to will yourself into doing so, be described a 'a complexified synonym for "theory of writing"'. failing that, it could be simply translated as "writing". any one of those fancy, obscurantist french-to-english dictionaries would tell you that, were you inclined to have some idea about that which you write.

it's easy to underrate that which you don't understand, or have any interest to. underinformed, facile disdain should never be confused with clear, powerful nonfiction. please tell me you're an employee of portland state, not a professor. if this is how you'd prepare for classes...

American generals in Iraq triumphantly announced at the weekend that they had successfully taken over Samarra and killed 125 insurgents. They failed to mention that this is the third time they have captured this particular city on the Tigris river north of Baghdad in the past 18 months...The situation on the ground in Iraq is far worse than what is portrayed by the media. Ironically, this is because it is now so dangerous for journalists and television crews to leave their heavily guarded hotels in Baghdad that they cannot refute claims by the American and British governments that much of Iraq is safe.
