LONDON Japan's Renesas Technology Corp. is set to open an IC design center in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, the company said Tuesday (Aug. 31). Renesas said it hopes to expand the center to 1,000 employees by the end of the decade.
Renesas Design Viet Nam Co. Ltd. (RVC) will begin operations in October. RVC is expected to design major system chips around Renesas' SH-Mobile processor starting with a staff of 20 to 30 people. Renesas plans to boost development work to include SoC products and software, and increase its engineers to 200 in the 2006 financial year and 1,000 four years after that.
Renesas Technology said it plans to work with local universities and offer career opportunities in Japan for qualified candidates.
Renesas said RVC's president will be named later.
