In the post-industrial U.S. capitalist system, the hack is at the level of the human cognitive apparatus. A cross-platform patch sufficient to the magnitude of the problem has yet to be developed. But it will be sooner in coming when the programmers understand and accept that any fix needs to be - doh! - compatible with the existing code.
