Maskhadov is irrelevent in Chechnya. Even when he was president, he barely controlled Grozny. He has zero support. That's why he spends his time making press releases to be issued in England instead of fighting. In fact I doubt he is even in Chechnya. Basayev is the guy who is fighting, and he is not a separatist, he is an Islamist.
