Not just to conform with the herd, but out of a type of superstitious fear that to say otherwise may jinx their current paying gig. The fear of losing one's job, particularly among those with dependants or who are already living paycheck to paycheck (and next payday loan due date) is an ominous cloud of uncertainty. Corporate lay-offs, restructurings, mergers and outsourcing make a lot of workers look over their shoulders before saying anything negative, even if it is to themselves. They may hate their job, but "knock on wood," they have one.

As EU corporations tweak both company and government policies to remain competitive, though, isn't that 4-6 week allowance under scrutiny and attack?
