A co-worker of mine pointed out this very revealing quote from the 
official Ramle Municipality website.  The history is generally known, so 
it is no somoking gun in that sense, and during the War of '48 in 
Palestine/Israel there was no shortage of these types of acts against 
civilian targets from either side.  But it seems quite stunning to me 
that an official Israeli government website  would so unabashadly frame 
an explicit terror attack in heroic terms.  The Israeli  propaganda 
machine must have had a bit of a glitch in this case and their radar was

"A daring sabotage operation was done by a Jewish fighter in the 
marketplace. On Febuary 18, 1948 A young Jew dressed as an Arab had 
infiltrated into the marketplace carrying a basket full of explosives 
covered with vegetables. He left the basket there and fled. The 
explosion killed 7 and injured 45. This action imposed fear on the Arabs 
of Ramla..."
