Richard Clarke's point was too narrow.  Invading Iraq was not just the
greatest possible gift to Al Qaeda; it was the greatest possible gift to
virtually all the forces of evil.  Alas, our ruling class is squarely at the
epicenter of those forces.  Negotiating, peace, and international law are
anathema to it.
