Yes, Dante was a Christian, and those who parrot this line about u.s. stupidity are revealing that they themseles have never escaped the stultifying effects of Christianity.

That is why it is so important for leftists (a) not to bad mouth or give up on the bulk of the population and (b) focus their _current_ attention on reaching that minority of the populace (about 10 to 20% that shares important perspectives with the left. That way the practice which can began to reach a wider circle can be developed.
The MWM is an ideal example of how a small minority begins the 1000 mile trek to reach out beyond itself.
