Siberian shaman wants to purge Duma of evil spirits

MOSCOW. May 6 (Interfax) - Toizin Bergenov, the supreme shaman of Siberia,
has said he is willing to purge the Russian State Duma building of evil
spirits, the Duma public associations and religious organizations committee
told Interfax Thursday.

"The shaman believes that much hatred and detestation have accumulated in
the premises of the lower chamber over the past ten years and also not a
few evil words have been uttered, which poisons the lives of those who work
at the Duma," the committee source said.

A group of parliamentarians recently came up with an initiative to purify
the Duma building again. The first purification, conducted by Archbishop
Arseny of Istra, an aide to Patriarch Alexy II of Moscow and All Russia,
took place immediately following the building's overhaul in 1994.

"The supreme shaman of Siberia quite liked the idea of inviting Orthodox
priests to
fight evil in the Duma, but, in his view, this ritual will not
be enough to eradicate the dark forces that have settled in the Duma," the
source said.

The shaman plans to come to Moscow in late June to conduct the ritual,
when, as he put it, the Spirit of the Sun will be particularly powerful.

"This request has been received by a number of State Duma deputies, who are
drawing up a special address to speaker Boris Gryzlov," the Interfax source
said.
