<DIV>Gorbachev to attend Reagan funeral<BR><BR>MOSCOW, June 8 (Reuters) - Former Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev will<BR>attend the funeral of Ronald Reagan, his partner in ending decades of Cold<BR>War in the 1980s, an aide to Gorbachev said on Tuesday.<BR><BR>Vladimir Polyakov said Gorbachev, who has close personal relations with the<BR>former U.S. president's family, would travel to Washington DC for Friday's<BR>ceremony.<BR><BR>In 1985 the anti-Communist Reagan and the newly elected Soviet Communist<BR>party leader Gorbachev signed a breakthrough declaration in Geneva, stating<BR>that the global superpowers should never engage in nuclear war.<BR><BR>Gorbachev described Reagan on Saturday as a great leader who dared to<BR>strike a deal with the country he described as an "Evil Empire." The deal<BR>created a better international political climate and paved the way for<BR>nuclear arms cuts on both sides.<BR><BR>Reagan praised Gorbachev's "perestroika" reform for making Soviet
society<BR>more open and democratic when he visited Moscow in 1988, a year before he<BR>ended his second presidential term.</DIV><p>
